Since too long time ago people are preparing to celebrate our national party, but this time is more special than others. Since two or three years ago TV channels, shops, banks and other institutions are offering a lot of contests according this special date. On September the 18th, as usually, we are going to celebrate two hundred years of independence, or that is the most of the people think.
It is a very common mistake. A lot of people think we are going to celebrate two hundred years of independence, but that is a lie. If you are walking for a street and then you stop a person and you ask him “When the Chilean Independence was?” he is bound to answer you “It was on September 18th, 1810”. I’ll repeat it, it is a mistake, the Chilean independence was not on 1810, it was on February 12th, 1818. So, we aren’t going to celebrate two hundred years of independence, we are going to celebrate two hundred years of our first step to get the independence, that’s the truth (you can think we are going to celebrate on February 12th, 2018. Whatever happens, I will celebrate).
People are looking forward to this date, they are very happy, although our country has past some very hard problems this year, as the earthquake on February 27th or the miners’ accident. It’s been a really hard year, but the party spirit is over other things.
I would like to have a relaxing time this year, but I think I will have a tired one, because I will have to work at church, due to the fact that we are planning a “fonda” to get some money to fix our church’s rooms, therefore I’m going to work hard there on September 18th. My grandfather is planning a barbecue, I’m not sure what day it is, but it will be a big party.
Taking everything into account, I think our country must celebrate our parties in a very huge way, because it is an important date for our country chiefly now, because we are having some bad times, we need to have a time to relax and be happy, although it is for a while.
